Mexico is famous for its friendly people, tequila, jalapenos, the sombrero, chocolate, the Aztecs and, of course, fantastic food.
All our dishes are inspired by classic Latin-American, Tex-Mex and Mexican flavours. We're like a little part of Mexico right here in the UK!
But as most of you probably know, it’s also a popular Mexican dish consisting of different combinations of fillings wrapped in a flour tortilla and deep fried for extra crispyness!
We know this technique originates from the Mexican states of Sinaloa and Sonora, but what about the name?!
There's many different myths and legends on how the name came about. According to one story, a Mexican cook accidentally dropped a pastry into a deep fat fryer in 1922. She immediately began to utter a Spanish curse-word beginning ‘chi’, but quickly stopped herself and instead exclaimed ‘chimichanga’!
From these humble and amusing beginnings, the Chimichanga grew ever popular. Today, it is famous amongst Mexican cuisine... so famous, we even named our restaurants after it!
